Developers of the upcoming Subnautica 2 game warn players about “fraudulent invites” to playtests.
Unknown Worlds, the studio behind the game, has made a post on X warning about fake invites on Steam.
Donya Abramo, community manager at Unknown Worlds, said: “We have been made aware that fraudulent invites to a Subnautica 2 playtest are being sent on Steam to our community.
“We will never contact you directly on Steam to invite you to any of our User Research Studies or playtesting opportunities. Any contact regarding studies or playtests will only ever be sent by email from an Unknown Worlds address.”
Subnautica 2 is the upcoming sequel to the highly popular underwater exploration game that was released back in 2018.
Fans have been eager to get their hands on the title ever since the original teaser trailer launched. Various leaks surfaced online about what we can expect from the game, which has only fuelled the community’s hype. Sadly, it also means that some fans may not hesitate to jump into any “opportunity” that presents itself.
The community manager advises victims of fake invites to update their Steam password and consult Steam’s guidelines for stolen accounts. In recent months, the developers have issued invites for a “user research participant pool,” though they were sent through the Discord server.
But in the meantime, players will not only have to wait for the official release date to be revealed but also stay clear of phishing invites.
