The success of the Korean-based thriller continues to live on as Squid Game Season 2 has hit a huge 68 million views and broken records following its debut.
The much-anticipated follow-up hit Netflix on December 26, after the first season had achieved great heights on the platform.
Within 12 days of the first season’s launch date, it became the most watched series and program in 94 countries. Over 142 million households sat down to watch the drama take place, with the first season taking 12 years to bring to life.
Now, the second variation has already become the streaming platform’s seventh most popular non-English TV show in record time.
As well as racking up the views, it has topped the charts too and has become number one in 92 countries. It has broken the record for most views for a show in its premiere week, overtaking ‘Wednesday’ Season 1 in 2022 which had 50.1 million views.
This news comes as the third and final season has already been confirmed to be released in 2025. The director, Hwang Dong-hyuk has already promised another ‘thrill ride’ to end the show on a high note.
Squid Game Season 2 secures success, alongside others over end of year period
Alongside Squid Game Season 2, the NFL Christmas Gameday Live also won big on the platform as it claimed the number one and two spot on the English TV list with 14.4 and 14.3 million views.
The Baltimore Ravens vs. the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers have become the two most-streamed NFL matchups in US history.
Film wise, the new Carry-On movie remained at number one on the English films list for its third consecutive week. It has reached a total of 34.9 million views, while The Six Triple Eight remained in the second spot for the second week.
Behind Squid Game Season 2 in the non-English TV rankings is the Norway-based La Palma which is holding strong in the second spot with 12.2 million views.
