German software giant SAP amped up its Internet of Things (IoT) presence with the announcement of expanded offerings and partners for its SAP HANA Cloud Platform for IoT.
SAP announced the increased IoT offerings on May 10 at the Internet of Things World Conference and Exposition, in Santa Clara, Calif.
“SAP HANA Cloud Platform for the IoT provides a comprehensive set of capabilities that extends the SAP HANA platform and SAP HANA Vora software to address the needs of IoT applications, while providing the flexibility to address different solution and architecture patterns,” SAP said in a media release.
The expanded offerings allow existing SAP HANA customers to cover their increasing IoT-related activity in such areas as predictive computing, dashboarding, analytics, device management, mobile enablement, edge computing and connectivity management.
“SAP is helping customers map their journeys through digital transformation, and the IoT has the potential to drive the largest segment of growth in new business value,” said SAP executive vice president Tanja Rueckert. “We offer the right solution infrastructure and are committed to building the strongest, most comprehensive ecosystem for the IoT in the industry. Our robust platform and line-of-business and industry applications for the IoT enable customers to improve their operational efficiency and transform their business models.”
SAP HANA offering a bundle of data management joy
One new offering for the platform is the IoT foundation bundle for SAP HANA that allows for better IoT data management. Another expansion is the IoT intelligent edge processing bundle for SAP HANA that complements the IoT foundation for SAP HANA by running at the edge of the network.
SAP’s IoT platform is currently used by a variety of firms such as Siemens for its MindSphere cloud product for industry.
SAP also announced a brace of new industry collaborations including another Dell partnership. The new collaboration will combine SAP’s IoT solutions with Dell’s intelligent Edge Gateway 5000 in order to allow clients to extend their digital cores.
As well, SAP unveiled plans to collaborate with Hitachi to develop IoT solutions around the areas of transportation and logistics, smart city and smart manufacturing.
