The Gear Fit 2 has been around for over a year and there has been no news about an upgrade to the line up until now. Now, a Samsung ‘Wrist device’ was spotted passing FCC certification bearing FCC ID: A3LSMR365. The model number of the device is SMR365 which confirms it as the next version of the Gear Fit series as the Gear Fit 2 came with model number SMR360. If rumors are to be believed this could possibly be the Gear Fit 2 Pro.
The FCC certification however doesn’t leak out much details of the fitness band other than that it has WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2LE connectivity. The device dimensions LxW measures 24.8 mm x 51.2 mm and the rectangular display diagonally measures in at 52.29 mm that translates to roughly 2 inches which is larger than the Gear Fit 2’s .5 inch display. A heart rate is also mentioned in the certification to be featured on the fitness band.
The original Gear Fit didn’t run on Tizen or even Android as it was based on a proprietary Real Time Operating System (RTOS), however from the Gear Fit2 Samsung made a move to Tizen Wearable OS thus joining the likes of Gear S, Gear S2 and the Gear S3. This new wearable piece of tech will obviously also run Tizen. The major problem with the Gear Fit 2 as described by many users was that the display was on the weaker side and more likely to crack from minor falls. Hopefully, with upcoming Gear Fit 2 Pro, that is taken care of with a much sturdy build.
