Samsung Unpacked 2025: What was announced?

The annual Samsung Unpacked which often provides answers to year-long rumors took place on Wednesday (January 22) with the 2025 event finally announcing the new Galaxy S25 series.

The occasion took place from San Jose, California, with it being streamed worldwide. As well as the device line-up, the event also focused heavily on AI.

As expected, the technology giant unveiled the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+, and the standard Galaxy S25.

While the hardware remains largely unchanged, the improvements have mainly come from the software.

The whole S25 range comes complete with the new “Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy chipset, providing incredible processing power for Galaxy AI and stunning camera capabilities with the next-gen ProVisual Engine.”

It’s the Galaxy S25 Ultra which offers the most upgrades including the rounded edges and the Corning Gorilla Armor 2 which provides a brand-new scratch-resistant and anti-reflective glass ceramic cover material.

The Ultra has a 6.9” display, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 200 MP wide-angle camera along with a 50 MP Ultra-Wide camera and a lens capable of 100x zoom.

Aside from the devices, the all-new Galaxy AI features were also revealed. These include smart suggestions, enhanced voice recognition, and auto-scheduling.

The features have been brought to life with One UI 7 which is Samsung’s latest mobile interface that introduces a whole host of new features to “enhance the user experience across the Galaxy device lineup.”

In a press release, the company states this will make it “more streamlined, efficient, and user-friendly.

“It focuses on privacy, offering better security controls and more transparency over data usage, ensuring that users have full control over their personal information.”

Samsung Unpacked also saw a mixed reality headset, named ‘Project Moohan XR,’ showcased to the public. This was originally announced in December and is a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

The timelines for this device wasn’t made clear, but the hardware being on show represents a step in the right direction.
