Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business (S.LSI) is showcasing its latest technologies at the 2018 edition of Mobile World Congress Shanghai. The company has technologies such as ISOCELL and Exynos, as well as a smart speaker reference platform on display at the event. Samsung’s new ISOCELL Plus camera technology, which, the company claims, brings enhanced color accuracy and sharpness to mobile photos, is on display as well.

Samsung at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2018

Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS) is Asia’s leading tech industry event. This year’s event is being held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, with 550 attending companies from over 100 countries. Samsung first participated in MWCS last year, when it introduced its ISOCELL series of camer sensors. This year too, the company has actively took part in this continually expanding event, showcasing its latest groundbreaking technologies.

Samsung Smart Speaker

Samsung has been working on a Bixby-powered smart speaker, which the company plans to release in the later half of this year. Though the company is yet to reveal any details about the product, we have had some insights on how it may approach the highly competitive smart speaker market.
Samsung has now showcased a reference platform of its smart speaker at the MWCS. It is based on Samsung internals, including Exynos SoC, image sensor, RF, PMIC and secure element. It has a touchscreen display which allows users to control their music and smart home devices. The reference platform, however, offers no hint about how the Bixby Speaker may look like.

Samsung hasn’t yet finalized a date to launch its Bixby Speaker. Chances are that we’ll get to hear more about it at IFA 2018 in Berlin, late in August.

Apart from the the Bixby speaker reference platform, other highlights by Samsung at MWCS 2018 included S.LSI’s ISOCELL and Exynos, along with the new ‘ISOCELL Plus’ technology.

ISOCELL

Samsung first launched the ISOCELL series, which the company went on to win award for at CES 2018 Innovation Awards, at MWCS last year. The technology offers solutions for devices that require ultra-slim designs with high quality cameras.
The ISOCELL sensor on display at MWCS this year is the Slim 3P9, with Plug and Play solution. It is a product-ready solution, which manufacturers can simply plug into a device, and save up to four months of development time.

ISOCELL Plus

ISOCELL Plus is Samsung’s latest camera technology which the company introduced at MWCS this year. The technology allows CMOS image sensors to capture more light, producing more accurate and clearer photos even in low-light conditions.

Exynos

Samsung also has its latest SoC processors, Exynos Series 7 9610 and Exynos 9810, on display at the MWCS. The Exynos Series 7 9610 is a high-end application processor, and the company’s first SoC to offer 480fps filming for super slow-motion videos. The SoC comes with enhanced AI-powered image processing capablities to support DSLR-like camera functions.
The Exynos 9810, on the other hand, is a premium processor by Samsung. It comes with Samsung’s 3rd-generation CPU core for enhanced AI and multimedia capabilities.
