Small rumours have been circulating for a while with regards to the fate of the Samsung NX line of cameras, and now it looks like their fate is sealed as there is official word from Samsung UK :
“In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products.”, in a statement provided to TechRadar.
The end is here for the much critically acclaimed Samsung NX1, NX500 and a host of smaller compact cameras in the UK. The NX1 in particular became an actual viable option for Pro DSLR Users that wanted a lighter and more versatile Compact Systems Camera (CSC). The picture quality of the NX500, the even smaller and more portable version, also won over camera enthusiasts, something you throw in your bag for the day out.
There are other rumours that suggest that this might not be an issue only in the UK market, but also Includes Europe and Australia.
There have been tell tale signs:
- Some retailers have withdrawn selling the device
- Samsung has not updated thier Smart Camera website for coming up to a year now
- Samsung has also stopped providing firmware updates for their NX Cameras
Whilst all that happens, there is also possibly a CES 2016 announcement, whatever that is.
