Samsung Pay rolls out on first private label payment card in Spain

Samsung Pay continues to expand its frontiers both making entry into new markets and also becoming supported by more retailers in existing markets. The flexible payment platform has recently become available on its first ever private label online debit card in Spain. Customers of Spain’s largest departmental store, El Corte Inglés are now able to upload their branded debit cards to Samsung Pay. The departmental store’s private label card is powered by Gemalto’s PURE network which is developed for domestic schemes and private label cards network.
Gemalto is an international digital security company providing software applications, secure personal devices such as smart cards and tokens, and managed services. The company has its headquarters in the Netherlands and is reputed to be the world’s largest manufacturer of SIM cards. Customers of  El Corte Inglés all over Spain will thus be able to upload their cards to Samsung Pay by enrolling their payment cards online with Gemalto’s TSH platform which then turns their card credentials into tokenized data stored on Samsung’s mobile payments platform.
Samsung Pay first made its debut in Spain around June last year with Spain being the first European country where the service became available. It is just apt that the service continues to expand one year after its roll out. With this additional expansion, owners of El Corte Inglés payment cards won’t need to have their debit card around while shopping all the time as payment can be made via their smartphones or even smartwatch. This brings a lot of convenience, security and reduces the risk of losing their payment cards while on the move. Samsung Pay is presently compatible on some Samsung phones like the Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, Galaxy A5 2016 and Galaxy A7 2016, the 2017 Galaxy A Series as well as the Gear S3 smartwatch
