Today, Samsung Electronics has announced Samsung Pay, its mobile payment solution, can now be used by cardholders of The Co-operative Bank in the UK. This is welcome news as it shows the payment service is further strengthening its services in the UK and hopefully we will see more banks coming onboard in the near future. Samsung Pay is seen as a simple and secure payment service that allows customers to pay literally anywhere, Including places that they can already use their contactless credit or debit card.
The Co-operative Bank is now the seventh bank to join Samsung Pay in the UK – with the other banks being First Direct, HSBC, M&S Bank, MBNA, Nationwide and Santander. Compatible devices are currently the Galaxy Note8, S8/S8+, S7/S7 edge, S6/S6 edge, S6 edge+, A3 2017 and A5 2017 devices. The only Tizen device that supports Samsung Pay is currently the Gear S3 smartwatch, but you have to make sure it is paired to a compatible smartphone that is running Android 4.4 KitKat and above.
If you are concerned about security then you will be pleased to know that Samsung have implemented their Knox security platform, which is built into the hardware and software of your device, making sure your data is secure. Samsung Knox provides real-time kernel protection and monitors malicious software and activities for added security. Users of the Galaxy Note8, S8 or S8+ can use the fingerprint sensor to authorise payments as well as the iris scanner technology.
Master and Visa card are not the only services that you can Integrate with Samsung Pay, as you can also load loyalty and store cards, amongst others, directly into the app. Samsung has also worked with the Transport for London (TfL), as well as most National Rail services in London, allowing users to tap their phone against the entry card reader, eliminating the need to wake their phone or verify with a fingerprint or passcode.
