Samsung Galaxy Watch launched in India, price starts at Rs 24,990

Samsung Electronics has officially launched the new Galaxy Watch in India. The watch was unveiled in New York last month and has since gone on to hit the streets in a number of markets. In India, the watch will go on sale in mid-October and will be available through all authorised retail channels in the country, both online and offline.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch comes in two variants, 42mm and 46mm, which differ in screen size and battery capacity. The 46mm Galaxy Watch features a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display of 360×360 resolution and packs a 472mAh battery. The smaller, 42mm model has the same display panel but of 1.2-inch size, and packs a 270mAh battery. The circular display, which is topped by Samsung’s trademark rotating bezel, is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass DX panel. The watches are powered by Exynos 9110 Dual core 1.15GHz processor, coupled with 768MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage.
The Tizen OS-running Samsung smartwatch has a 5 ATM water resistance rating and features an Always On Display. The watch can track as many as 39 different physical activities, including your sleep and stress. Onboard sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyro, and HRM. The watch is compatible with both Android (5.0 or later) and iOS (9.0 or later) smartphones. One of the biggest selling points of the watch is its battery life. Samsung promises the watches can go multiple days on a single charge, although we’ve seen some contrasting feedback from some of the early adopters of the watch.

The 42mm variant comes in Midnight Black and Rose Gold colour options, while the 46mm model is available only in Silver. The well-designed build of the watch makes it a perfect style statement, and a worthy successor to Samsung’s most popular smartwatch in India, the Gear S3.
Samsung has set the price at Rs. 24,990 for the 42mm Galaxy Watch, while the 46mm variant costs Rs. 29,990. The watches will go on sale in mid-October. Notably, Samsung has only announced the Bluetooth versions of the watch in India. There’s no word yet on when, and if, the LTE versions of the Galaxy Watch will be made available in India or not.
