Samsung approves You.i TV video platform for Tizen TV app development

Samsung has a huge interest in Tizen as the platform for all its devices, so it’s once again not surprising to see Samsung pushing for more content on its Smart TVs. The latest effort to bring app development to its Tizen-powered Smart TVs involves the approval of video platform company You.i TV’s video engine app for the development of video content on the Korean giant’s Smart TVs. You.i TV Business Development Director Allan Isfan spoke to the Tizen developer community at the Tizen Developer Conference (TDC 2017) this week.
While Samsung has developed Tizen TV apps using JavaScript, You.i TV’s Engine Video app runs on Native Client (NACL), a web technology that does not only allows C++ applications to run in a standard browser but is said to be 24 times faster than JavaScript. Now that Samsung has approved You.i TV’s video engine platform, developers can craft more video content for Tizen Smart TV owners.
The partnership forged between You.i TV and Samsung allows the company to expand its video content and provide an even more compelling reason for customers to make their next big screen a Tizen TV. In recent months, Samsung has partnered with NexStreaming to oversee the arrival of the NexPlayer SDK for Tizen TVs. Samsung’s Tizen TVs are the first to showcase the Facebook Video app for big screens, and even its 2015 and 2016 models will get Facebook Video. Most recently, Samsung has partnered with Amazon to bring color contrast and enhancement technology HDR10+ to its 2017 UHD TVs, QLED TVs, and 2016 SUHD TVs.
