It has been six months since Samsung first announced the creation of their next-generation security solution called TVkey. What’s so good about this solution? Well, on select Samsung TVs consumers will be able to plug in the affordable TVKey USB into their Smart TV in order to access pay-TV services. This method has the advantage of negating the need of a second set-top box, remote control or CAM module with smartcard. The TVkey solution was developed in cooperation with NAGRA, one of the leading providers of content protection.
“By partnering with NAGRA on TVkey, we are setting a new standard for the industry, enabling pay-TV providers to securely deliver premium UHD content directly to consumers,” said Jong-hee Han, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics said in September last year.
Samsung and NAGRA have now announced the world’s first commercial deployment of the content delivery system at German satellite operator HD+. The TVKey solution will be made accessible to a wider range of TVs as it will be developed into an open market solution in early 2017. Compatible Samsung TVs in Germany will be able to provide HDR and 4K programmes via the HD+ TVkey solution, which will be free for a limited time.
