Ripple boss argues U.S. crypto stockpile should include XRP

Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, believes the U.S. government’s plan to stockpile digital assets should stretch beyond Bitcoin to include other crypto coins such as his company’s XRP.

Garlinghouse has added his voice to the debate, with a vested Ripple interest, as President Trump steps up his moves to establish the United States as a powerhouse for crypto.

Last Thursday (Jan 23), Trump signed an executive order to establish a specialist working group to develop digital asset regulation, with a broader aim of stockpiling crypto holdings.

The directive outlined how “The digital asset industry plays a crucial role in innovation and economic development in the United States, as well as our Nation’s international leadership.”

As a leading provider of crypto infrastructure for the financial services industry, Ripple will want to be front and center, having a say in critical developments in the sector.

Its CEO has sounded the message that collaboration can secure collective gains, instead of a zero-sum situation that prioritizes one crypto coin over others. As ever, Bitcoin has featured heavily in the conversation with some taking the position that only Bitcoin should be included in government proposals.

Should be representative of the industry

Garlinghouse is the owner of various crypto holdings and his position is that the government should embrace a diversified crypto reserve.

“I own XRP, BTC, and ETH, among a handful of others – we live in a multichain world, and I’ve advocated for a level-playing field instead of one token versus another. If a govt digital asset reserve is created – I believe it should be representative of the industry, not just one token (whether it be BTC, XRP or anything else),” Garlinghouse posted on X.

However, critics have shot down his perspective, including Pierre Rochard, Vice President of Riot Platforms. He insists Bitcoin’s decentralized nature makes it the only suitable crypto coin for a federal stockpile.
