Remedy and Annapurna will collaborate on Control 2 and Alan Wake cinematic universe

TLDR

  • Remedy partners with Annapurna to develop Control 2 and expand the Alan Wake universe.
  • Control and Alan Wake will be adapted into film, TV, and other media.
  • Remedy also announced that Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes are in full production.

Remedy has announced a collaboration with Annapurna, in the development of Control 2 and bringing the Alan Wake cinematic universe to life.

In the blog post on Thursday (Aud, 29), the Finnish studio broke the news saying they can now “make Control 2 exactly the game we want it to be, while we now also have an incredible partner to extend our (intellectual properties) IPs to other mediums. We are also going to be publishing Control 2 ourselves.”

Remedy said both franchises will be brought to “film, TV and beyond.”

Remedy teams up with Annapurna for Control 2

Ex-Epic Games executive Hector Sanchez has rejoined Annapurna as President of Interactive and New Media. He is driving the content and cinematic remit alongside CEO Megan Ellison.

He said of the move, “We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television and beyond.”

Control and the award-winning Alan Wake franchises have been popular across consoles and ported to PC, with their X-Files and Twin Peaks vibes. The company rose to fame after the classic bullet-time shooter Max Payne rose to prominence in the early 2000s.

Max Payne Remakes ahead

Both of the Max Payne games will be getting the remake treatment, which is a growing trend across the industry amid ongoing financial pressures. Remedy announced earlier this month that Max Payne 1 & 2 are in “full production.”

Max Payne was created by Rockstar Games, the originator of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but would sell the rights to the series to Remedy.

Both Remedy and Take Two (the parent company of Rockstar) recently battled over the use of the “R” in the logo of Remedy, with the lengthy battle hitting the media.

Remedy defended their use of the logo change as a “time to update and redefine our visual identity to bring more consistency, showcase our evolution over the years, and better express our vision of today’s Remedy.”

It remains to be seen how successful the overall change in Remedy’s fortunes will be after the big deal, but fans of the IPs have a lot to look forward to.
