The Samsung Gear 360 2017 will be officially launched on May 12 in the UK. Ahead of that launch event. Samsung has disclosed that pre-orders for the Gear 360 2017 are now and if you order before May 11 at 7 pm, you will be eligible for a FREE 128GB Samsung EVO memory card, all for only £219. You’ll agree Samsung is keeping to its promise that the Gear 360 2017 will be cheaper than the previous year’s Gear 360 which sells for USD 350 (~£270).
The Gear 360 2017 does need not be examined more than once to realise that the device comes with a new design, which is different from the previous gen Gear 360. The Gear 360 2017 is still powered by Samsung’s Tizen OS and also features dual 8.4-megapixel CMOS sensors with a f/2.2 aperture and fish-eye lens on either side. The highlight of the camera is its ability to record at 4K resolution (4096×2048) at 24 FPS and H.265 encoding. The camera also supports 360 live-streaming at full HD resolution on platforms such as Youtube, Samsung VR and even Facebook. The camera can also capture crisp 15 MP 360-degree stills. The camera stores the recorded content in a microSD card (support up to 256GB) and the battery supports for 2 hours of recording at 2K resolution. It also features a USB Type-C port instead of the USB 2.0 on the previous version. This makes it easy to charge the device from a smartphone.

Furthermore, the Gear 360 2017 is both dust and water resistant and comes with IP53 certification. Samsung also expanded the list of compatible devices with the new Gear 360, bringing in smartphones like the Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 Edge, Galaxy Note5, S6 Edge+, S6, S6 edge, A5 (2017) and A7 (2017). The camera also comes with support for Apple iPhone 7,7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus and iPhone SE. Samsung continues with the software support for editing on Windows PCs and now has brought support for Mac as well.
In addition, the Gear 360 2017 companion app is already available on Google Playstore, equipped with some interesting new features that weren’t available on the previous Gear 360. The app works as a remote and 360-degree viewfinder for the Gear 360 (with real time stitching) and lets users tweak the camera settings for their preference.
