Pokémon Go is wrapping up 2024 in style with its annual New Year event. The event is super-limited and only runs for two days, beginning at 10 am (local time) on December 30th and ending at 8 pm on January 1st, 2025. Here’s everything you can expect during the event:
Festive-themed Wild Encounters
During the event, you’ll have a chance to encounter three festive-themed Pokémon in the wild:
- Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon
- Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
- Wurmple wearing a party hat
All of these Pokémon have an increased chance of being Shiny too, so keep an eye out. They will appear more frequently in the wild too, so you have a decent chance of snagging one of these limited-time themed ‘mons!
Festive Raids
In addition to encountering wild festive Pokémon, players can also encounter the following festive Pokémon in raids:
- Pikachu wearing a snowflake beanie (One-Star Raids)
- Raticate wearing a party hat (Three-Star Raids)
- Wobbuffet wearing a party hat (Three-Star Raids)
As with the wild Pokémon, these ones also have an increased chance to be Shiny too during this 2-day event.
New Year Event Bonuses
During the New Year event, you’ll get an extra 2,025 XP for catching Pokémon with Excellent Throws. When you go around catching ‘mons, you’ll also spot some fun fireworks lighting up the AR sky on your phones – how cute!
New Year Event-Themed Research Tasks
The team at Pokémon Go has also promised some event-themed Field Research tasks as well, which will reward players with encounters with the festive-themed Pokémon listed above. You can also pay $2 to access the event-exclusive Timed Research event, which includes the following:
- Three Premium Battle Passes
- Three Lucky Eggs
- 2,025 Stardust
- Event-themed Pokémon encounters, including those listed above, and more.
The Pokémon Go: Dual Destiny season is currently ongoing and running through until March 4th, 2025. During this season, players can try to get their hands on the legendary Kyurem Pokémon. There’s also another upcoming Community Day event running between December 21st and 22nd, where players can encounter all former Community Day Pokémon.
