PlayStation 30th anniversary sale slashes prices on hundreds of games

Sony is rolling out its massive PlayStation 30th anniversary sale, which follows on from an enormous Black Friday deal period. At the time of writing, the sale isn’t live in the US region, but there’s a good preview of what to expect over in the UK.

So far, Sony has announced around 500 different games, but it’s expected that many more digital titles will get discounts. Among them are a massive variety of games, ranging from Call of Duty to Final Fantasy, and even more niche games, like Death Stranding and Sand Land.

The deal is supposed to replace the Black Friday sale, which ends today, December 2. It’ll run until December 20, and should also hit hardware on PlayStation Direct.

Headlining titles include Gran Turismo 7, The Last of Us Part 1, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Joining these are fan favorites like Assassin’s Creed and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Notably, Spider-Man 2 wasn’t included in the sale announcement but is in the Black Friday sale if you hurry.

However, solid games from this year, including Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will be marked down.

PlayStation 30th anniversary sale continues the celebrations

PlayStation’s 30th anniversary has been celebrated earlier this year on the hardware side. The company released classic PlayStation versions of the PS5, PS5 Pro, Portal, and the DualSense controller. These sold out incredibly fast, with only 12,300 Pro consoles made.

Scalpers tried to get ahead of the game, but PS5 Pro console sales haven’t warranted the markup prices and there’s currently a glut of second-hand stock.

Sony landed in the industry 30 years ago, after a failed venture with Nintendo. When the Super Nintendo add-on was scrapped after business went sideways, Sony launched the PlayStation brand by itself in 1994. It was a huge success, bringing some of the first 3D experiences into the homes of many for the first time.

The company recently reported that the PS2 still sits as the most-sold console, with an updated figure of 160 million.
