Perplexity teases plans to launch its own web browser, Comet

TLDR

  • AI search engine Perplexity announces Comet, its own web browser, with sign-ups open for early access.
  • Details remain scarce, but Perplexity promises to "reinvent the browser" with AI-powered agentic search.
  • Comet joins Perplexity’s growing AI ecosystem, following ad integration and an AI assistant for Android.

AI-powered search engine Perplexity has teased plans to build and launch its web browser, Comet.

In a post to X on Monday, February 24, Perplexity announced Comet, describing it as “A Browser for Agentic Search by Perplexity”. Clicking through from that post allows you to sign up to be among the first to use the browser when it becomes available. There’s no word on when that will be just yet

There’s also little information on what to expect from the browser, outside of the name.

“Just like Perplexity reinvented search, we’re also reinventing the browser,” a Perplexity spokesperson told TechCrunch. “Stay tuned for updates.”

There are already plenty of browser options out there. Still, it’s hard to deny that Perplexity has quickly established itself as a strong AI competitor, so it could well do the same within the crowded browser market.

Comet is Perplexity’s next step – one of many

With a strong user base already present for the search engine, it’s not too far of a jump to get users to switch to using a browser. This is just one of many areas that Perplexity is expanding into, with the company introducing ads at the end of last year and staking a claim in the research space. In 2025, it’s also already announced an AI-powered assistant for Android.

There seems to be still more work to be done on Comet. Perplexity said in a later post that the company is currently hiring for roles to help build out Comet, so we could be quite far away from a launch.

The teaser video only highlights the logo and branding, without any further details to go on as it stands. However, the reference to “agentic search” and Perplexity’s widespread focus on AI would suggest it will feature AI features.
