The AI company Perplexity decided to skip airing a television commercial during the Super Bowl and instead put aside $1M to one lucky user.
Dubbed the ‘Million Dollar Question,’ the competition was announced ahead of the big game with the premise being for users to ask questions during the event in the hopes of winning the huge stack of cash.

Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of Perplexity, shared the news on the X social media platform: “There will be no Perplexity Super Bowl ad. Instead, there’s a Super Bowl contest.
“You install the app (not needed if you have the app already), and ask at least five questions on the app during the game, and we will pick one winner to give $1m. Ask like a millionaire.”
The winner will soon be announced in Perplexity $1M competition
The sweepstakes-based competition was open to anyone based in the United States, with a total of 26 entries up for grabs. This included one for entering the sweepstakes, five for asking questions, and 20 for referring friends.
The startup founder further explained his reasoning for launching the competition on social media as he said: “Pay the user, not the establishment.
“$1,000,000 to that one optimistic user. Better than spending several million on traditional ad spend. Repeatable and scalable and more exciting and iterative with plenty of room for improvement to make it less random and more meritocratic.”
The Super Bowl has become a prime time for advertisers to splash the cash, with CBS News reporting that some are shelling out close to $8 million on average for a 30-second spot.
Shortly after the game concluded, the CEO announced that they had reached out to the winner of the Perplexity AI Sweep Stakes contest and would be announcing their identity once they confirmed.
It’s not yet known what the million-dollar question was, but this will likely be shared in due time.
Aravind went on to thank all of those who entered and suggested more giveaways could take place in the future.
