Opera Software have announced today that their Opera Mini browser will be available as a FREE download for the upcoming Samsung Gear S Smartwatch. Users will now have the ability of browse the web from the comfort of their wrist.
Opera Mini has the ability to shrink a webpage down to an amazing 10% of its original size, and can hopefully reformat it for a 2″ display. Users also get The Smart Page, which gives users all their social updates and the latest news on one screen. We also get website shortcuts as large buttons and Private browsing which removes any trace of the web pages visited on your wearable device.
“As a lightweight but powerful browser maker, Opera has been a pioneer of making the web accessible across a huge variety of connected devices, such as the internet keyboard, the dual-screen handheld game console, VOIP phones and, now, wearable device,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software. “We are thrilled that Opera Mini will be the first browser for Samsung Gear S users to download. This is an exciting, new experience for smart-gear users.”
There is no news at the moment as to when a Galaxy Gear or Gear 2 version will be available. We have reached out to Opera Software and will update this post.
