Nvidia displays next-gen Blackwell RTX series at CES 2025

Nvidia has used the significant platform at CES 2025 to unveil its latest generation Blackwell graphics cards.

The company’s CEO Jensen Huang made his presence felt, donning a snakeskin-design jacket instead of his typical leather jacket, but this presentation was about more than him.

The new release of Blackwell GPUs has been long-awaited and with the world’s biggest tech show in Las Vegas providing the backdrop, the all-important details were displayed.

This month will see the first tranche arrive with the RTX 50 series, priced at $549 for the RTX 5070 and a hefty price tag of $1,999 for the headline RTX 5090.

From next month, users will also be able to obtain the mid-range RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 at $749 and $999, respectively.

A laptop version of the desktop chips is anticipated to be available in March, starting at $1,299.

At CES, Nvidia also announced the Cosmos AI platform for robotics.

AI coming home to GeForce says Huang

The price tag of the RTX 5090 will command headlines of its own, but Nvidia has been keen to push the product as far removed from an ordinary chip as possible. This is viewed as the ultimate GPU, with unprecedented capability.

It is packed with 32GB of GDDR7, progressing on the power of the GB202 GPU with 92 billion transistors compared to 76 billion on the GeForce RTX 4090, while it also contains 21760 CUDA cores.

With the 5090, Nvidia has pledged twice the frame rates of the 4090, while the 5070 version will possess 6,144 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR7 capacity.

As reported by Engadget, Nvidia displayed the new Blackwell chips section of its presentation at CES with a sneak-peek demo of a next-gen Assassin’s Creed game featuring the most advanced graphics to date.

This Blackwell power was summarized by Huang who stated, “All of this, with AI, is the house that GeForce built. Now, AI is coming home to GeForce.”
