Android is truly going everywhere. Leading that charge is Myriad Group from Switzerland, the company that brought Android to the iPad through its Alien Davlik technology. Davlik is bringing Android apps to a TV near you with a new release to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January called Alien Vue.
Alien Vue is being positioned by Myriad as a way for cable operators to ward off the over-the-top content offerings from companies like Google, Apple, Roku and others. Cut the cord? You may not have to if Alien Vue can spread its wings into the market.
Since announcing Davlik at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona February 2011, Myriad’s roadmap has been pretty clear. Start with smaller screens and work up. Bring Android everywhere. The latest step was moving from smartphones to tablets with the iPad demoed at CTIA Enterprise & Apps in San Diego in October.
Here is how Myriad explains Alien Vue:
- Alien Vue brings Android apps to your existing TV / Set-Top Box
- Enables TV service providers to respond to over-the-top services like Apple TV, Roku, and Google TV
- TV service providers can leverage existing customer technology to provide speedy access to rich Android ecosystems
Alien Vue is aimed at the TV providers to bring the Android ecosystem into the cable environment. Alien Vue will work between TVs, smarthpones and tablets. It will support apps designed to run on GoogleTV, HTML5 among other services such as YouTube, Netflix and Twiiter.
