More Harry Potter games promised after huge Hogwarts Legacy success

Having finally toppled the Call of Duty franchise from its seemingly perennial Best Selling Game of the Year perch, Hogwarts Legacy now has a legacy of its own. Would that make it the Hogwarts Legacy legacy?

Despite the Rowling controversy and not getting a sniff of an award at the Game of the Year Awards, Hogwarts Legacy sold an astonishing 22 million copies, including two million in December alone – 10 months after its main release. A later-in-the-year Switch release, plus it obviously being seen as the perfect holiday gift for many Harry Potter fans, propelled it to the top spot, knocking Call of Duty into second spot.

Now Warner Bros Games president David Haddad has said in an interview with Variety that the company has not finished with the Wizarding World and more games could be on the way.

The glaring omission from Hogwarts Legacy was the game of Quidditch, a popular staple of anything Harry Potter, despite there being a huge Quidditch pitch in the game that was only used in broomstick races.

Warner Bros. Games said months ago a separate Quidditch game is on its way and this is now at the beta stage – although it would have been so much better if it had featured in Hogwarts Legacy rather than a risky standalone project. With stats showing that players had knocked up 707 million hours of game time, including repeat playthroughs as members of the different houses, Hogwarts Legacy clearly caught the imagination of its players.

Besides re-confirming the intention to bring the Quidditch game to market Haddad also teased “a series of other things (that) will let the fans be part of this world and stories and characters in deeper and deeper ways”

Warner Bros Games and developer Avalanche will clearly look to replicate the success of Hogwarts now the market for quality Potter videogames has been established. Hopefully, we will get more news of what is to come over the coming months.
