On the 3rd of June, LG Electronics announced the start of their first 8K OLED TV. The pre-orders for this 88-inch TV start in South-Korea this week but will come to the key markets (America and Europe) in the third quarter of the year.
8K TV increases viewer immersion with improved audio performance, largely due to using the most efficient algorithm chosen to deliver virtual 5.1 surround sound. The deep learning of the processor analyses source content in order to enhance sound effects in videos/movies. It also helps to achieve a deeper level of bass and clearer voices. The customer can change the sound to fit their preferences or let the Smart TV set what it thinks is the best level to match the environment.
The capabilities of the processor
This is the largest smart TV that LG have come up with and is made possible by their display technology. The new model (LG model 88Z9) is said to provide an amazing quality viewing experience. The TV images are extremely sharp due to the 8K Ultra HD resolution- 7680 x 4320. The resolution is 16 times more than the pixels in a full HD TV. As the TV has over 30 million pixels that self-emit to deliver the customer a really good picture quality.
The performance is enhanced by the a (Alpha) 9 Den 2 8K intelligent processor. This is LG’s second generation processor. The processor is designed to enrich the quality of picture and sound. It also has access to an extensive database of visual information and has deep learning technology. The chip optimises content by recognising the source quality and using the best algorithm it has to guarantee realistic images. The processor can also has enhanced processing capabilities with 8K upscaling and better noise reduction. It also analyses ambient conditions to give the customer the optimum level of brightness.
The LG 8K OLED TV comes with Dolby Atmos to create realistic sound and fine-tunes content so that it is compatible with Dolby Vision. The TV has support for HDMI 2.1. This allows people to enjoy content at a speed of 60 frames a second. The TV also supports automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR) and enhanced audio return channel (eARC).
In certain markets, the TV will be able to offer built-in versions of both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. (Pretty cool in my opinion.) This is so that customers are offered maximum control over their TV and the potentially connected smart devices.
