Kingmakers finally gets an early access window after whipping up over one million wishlists on Steam

Earlier in the year the trailer for Kingmakers whipped up a storm as it started by depicting a medieval battle between horsebacked knights in shining armor during it out on the battlefield. Then you turned up on a motorbike with a shotgun. Turns out armor is no match for a shotgun.

Over the past few months, Kingmakers has managed to amass some one million wishlists meaning the game is going to go wild when it first comes out but, until now, there was no indication of when that might be.

Now, Redemption Road Games has spilled the beans, although not completely, announcing that Kingmakers will enter early access before the end of Q1 next year (so the end of March at the latest) and to celebrate has dropped a new trailer showing off more of the mayhem than ever before, but a new game mechanic beyond shooting merry men with various military-grade weaponry – that being castle building.

Now the Stronghold series of castle builders remains one of my favorite game franchises so I would probably have wishlisted this for that aspect alone, but thrown in alongside the premise of Kingmakers, count me in.

Castle building will now form a key part of Kingmakers

The trailer comes complete with a voiceover suggesting you have six months to change the course of history and install somebody as king, and to do that well, medieval shotgun time

There’s still not a wealth of information on how the game will actually play beyond the sights we get in the, admittedly great, trailer. The official description reads thus, “Go back in time to a war-torn medieval era with a vast arsenal of modern weapons, change the course of history, and save the future in this epic action/strategy sandbox. Build your kingdom, grab a gun, and lead an army of thousands into massive, real-time simulated battles — solo or in co-op.”

Plenty to go at there and it will be interesting to see what the game launches into Early Access contains.
