Season Seven of Fortnite Festival, starring virtual anime pop star Hatsune Miku, has now begun, and the wording of a line in the patch notes has sent Vocaloid fans into another hype spiral because of the word “Mesmerizing” and its connection to Kasane Teto.

Some fans are convinced the use of the word ‘Mesmerizing’ in Fortnite’s patch notes is a deliberate reference to one of Kasane Teto’s iconic song, Mesmerizer, which featured Hatsune Miku.
In response to a user on X calling the speculation a “reach”, prominent Fortnite leaker HYPEX responded, “you’d be surprised if u seen fortnite’s record of small teasers like this that eventually happened 💀”
Many users are more circumspect in their excitement, theorizing that while the use of the word is a hint, it’s likely to be for Mesmerizer being added as a Jam track rather than Kasane Teto as a character.
Meanwhile, others are holding out hope that Teto will be added as a full character, and excitement levels are extremely high. “Ofmgbndnen ∆Omrdvfbgkf OMFGGGG I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS” posted one user on X. Others still want Epic to expand the roster of Vocaloid performers. “Just add the rest of the crypton vocaloids too while epic is at it 😭😭😭” requests one user.
Who is Kasane Teto?
Teto has existed since 2008 but was originally created as an April fool’s joke by users on the Japanese forum 2channel. She was designed to deliberately mimic Crypton Future Media’s Vocaloid characters and came with a phony backstory and voicebank.
After an unexpected level of excitement and acceptance of the hoax character, TwinDrill (a group of musicians and artists) worked to bring Teto into being, making her voicebank compatible with synthesis software UTAU.
The song ‘Mesmerizer’ by Satsuki, featuring Kasane Teto, is currently sitting at over 111 million views on YouTube and is the character’s most popular song. ‘Override’ by Yoshida Yasei has over 57 million views as the second most popular.
