It’s 15 years since Angry Birds came out – you’ll never believe what it looks like now…

Well, the same actually it’s Angry Birds after all, the much-loved mobile franchise that went on to conquer the world and bring so many people to the world of mobile gaming is an amazing 15 years old. That’s a decade and a half of shooting birds in catapults (don’t worry that birds are generally okay at flying without a catapult – that’s kinda their schtick, (apart from rubbish ones like Ostriches) at pigs in buildings.

If you have just returned from traveling around deepest Tibet for 15 years, that last paragraph won’t make much sense to you, but I would imagine most of us have launched a bird at a tower, missed, and then launched our phone across the room and managed to hit something just fine with that.

Angry Birds was one of those games that transcended being just a game, just for a while. Like Candy Crush it was on every mobile phone. Now, to celebrate 15 years in our pockets, Rovio is launching a series of in-game events.

Besides in-game events, Rovio is also collabing with artists and hosting a celebratory livestream.

Game-wise though we will get a week-long in-game tournament as part of the Angryversary (to be fair, that’s quite good isn’t it?) in Angry Birds Friends

Angry Birds 2 will also have its own exclusive event running alongside the celebrations.

While Angry Birds may not be what it once was, it’s success over the past 15 years is a testament to a great puzzle game. Like Peggle before it, the lure of not being able to put it down because you just know you will do better next time was perfect. So perfect, they made a Hollywood movie out of it – and you know if those guys get involved, you have done something right.

Happy Birthday AB.
