Gozney Roccbox: Commercial-Grade, Portable Pizza Oven

Having your own pizza oven typically involves a large kitchen or outdoor space that most people don’t have. However, Gozney Roccbox has found a way to shrink the pizza oven to a portable size while still delivering a commercial-grade appliance.

Here’s my review of the Gozney Roccbox portable pizza oven, which I’m happy to say involved a lot of pizza nights in our house to see how it worked.

About the Company

Tom Gozney designed the pizza oven and started the company nearly 10 years ago. His goal was to create the perfect home-cooked pizza. Since then, he has developed many different products to help consumers enjoy restaurant pizzas at home.

Portable Pizza Oven Features

Available in gray or bright green, the restaurant-grade portable pizza has a long list of features. The company came up with the design based on what restaurants use, including adding professional-grade materials.

The pizza oven has a built-in thermometer, retractable legs, and detachable burner system. You can choose to use the standard gas burner or add a detachable wood burner that comes as an accessory to purchase separately.

Pros and Cons

The pros with this portable pizza oven are that fresh, homemade pizza is cooked nicely in just one to three minutes. The built-in thermometer helps to know exactly when the pizza is done. Plus, the oven is solid and durable, offering good heat distribution for even cooking. It’s also easy to set up and offers a cool look as cooking appliances go.

Another standout feature was that the outer silicone skin and dense body insulation helped reduce the risk of skin burns. Of course, to be safe, I still kept the kids far away from being able to touch it.

However, no matter how much I love cooking homemade pizza this fast with this portable pizza oven, there are some cons to address.  Despite the “portable” in its name, it’s heavy. The pizza oven comes in at 40 pounds, and that’s before adding the propane attachment. We also couldn’t really use the wood-burning attachment feature.

Finally, it’s on the expensive side at $500 albeit that is less than building a pizza oven in the backyard. There are competitors to compare, although I have yet to try the other options because I’m fully vested in this one after the sizable investment.

What’s in the Box?

Along with the oven, you get a professional-grade pizza peel, detachable gas burner, bottle opener, and manual. The pizza oven also comes with a five-year warranty.

While it’s not in the box, you can find tutorials on how to use the pizza oven and delicious recipes on their website. We took advantage of both these options and found it useful to get us started with our pizza-making.

Where to Buy

You can buy the pizza oven through the Gozney website for $499 with free shipping and free returns. Along with the wood-burning attachment, their website has other accessories like a cover and other pizza tools for purchase. Amazon and Williams-Sonoma also carry the pizza oven.

Overall Thoughts

This Gozney Roccbox pizza oven is a fun and delicious tool to enjoy restaurant-quality pizza at home in just minutes. There is so little fuss or effort. The only downside is that we will have to make a lot of pizzas to get the return on the $500 price tag. I really love this oven and it’s nice to have if it’s in the budget.
