A new password security upgrade could be coming to the Google Chrome browser as a software digger has found a new AI offering.
The user who goes by ‘Leopeva64’ on X shared screenshots on February 7, alongside a post which says: “Another AI-powered feature is coming to Chrome, “Automated password change,” the description mentions that “when Chrome finds one of your passwords in a data breach, it can offer to change your password for you when you sign in.”
Within the screenshots, the feature appears to be included within Google Password Manager. This is the tool that allows people to store, manage and create secure passwords.

One of the images shared by the X account shows a page with the text ‘Automated password Change’ which states the feature uses AI and is experimental.
The tool will allow users to change it there and then through AI use which will eliminate the manual process, with the page claiming the newly generated password will be “encrypted and never seen by anyone.”
Google Password Manager could see an updated AI upgrade
This comes after a similar password-focused feature was announced back in 2021 which included any compromised passwords being able to be changed quickly and safely within a single tap.
The former tool was made possible by the use of Duplex, an AI technology that uses natural conversation to help people save more time.
According to Ars Technica, it is possible to see how this technology works by downloading a Canary version of Chrome.
Although it’s expected to be rolled out soon, the technology giant hasn’t shared any news on the potential upcoming feature nor an update to its password manager in a while. It hasn’t confirmed the product will be coming either.
However, like many others, the company has been executing a real AI push across its products.
Just last week, Google announced a number of new artificial intelligence features coming to its Workspace for Nonprofits program.
A few days later, Google CEO Sundar Pichai spoke in Paris at the AI Action Summit where he explained the company’s standpoint: “That opportunity to improve lives and transform things is why Google has been investing in AI for more than a decade.”
