Today, the Samsung Gear Manager app has just received a software update in the Galaxy Apps Store. Just in case you don’t know, this is the app used to connect your mobile to your Gear smartwatch. The update brings with it support for the newly announced Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro fitness wearables.
It has to be noted that even without this update we have been able to connect to the Gear Fit2 Pro and Sport, so its likely that the update addresses some specific concerns regarding these two devices. Other improvements include Initial connection screen improved, News and Tips card added, New phrases added to Quick messages. There are probably a few bug-fixes and performance improvements chucked in for good measure. Following the update we are now on Samsung Gear version 2.2.17082261 and Gear S Plugin 2.2.03.17061361.
The Gear Fit2 Pro has been available on pre-order since last week, in the UK and US, and end users should start receiving them TODAY. The Gear Sport is expected to be released on October 27 – we haven’t confirmation on exactly which markets will get them first, but it seems a safe bet that the US and UK will be first with the Tizen fitness wearables, just like they were with the Fit2 Pro.
Manually update Gear Manager
If you do not get a notification to update your Gear software then you can manually update as below:-
- Launch Gear Manager App
- Select Settings tab
- Select About Samsung Gear App
- You should able to see the update listed.
If the above does not work, you can launch Samsung Galaxy Apps, search for Gear Manager and see if an update is listed there.
