Garmin’s Fenix 6X Series Bringing Solar Power to the Table!

Garmin has officially announced their latest watch series, the Garmin Fenix 6X. This smartwatch brings quite a lot of exciting features with it. In my opinion, the features sound pretty cool and worth reading about 😉

The Design

Both the Fenix 6X and 6X Pro Solar has “a rugged, sophisticated design”. Do you agree? Personally, I like the orange band that Garmin’s Fenix 6X is sporting. You don’t see that colour often in smartwatches. The screen of the Fenix 6X and 6X Pro Solar is 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch respectively.

Garmin says that the Fenix 6X Pro Solar edition sports Power Glass which is a lens that uses the sun’s energy to make the battery last longer. I personally think that this is a great idea. With the sunlight-readable display, you can check the solar input onto the smartwatch (see below). So you know how much sunlight the Power Glass is being exposed to.

The battery of the Fenix 6X Pro Solar should last around 21 days when in smartwatch mode. Garmin has also said that the watch should last an additional 3 days when it uses the solar charging feature. This information is from assuming that you wear the smartwatch all day with three hours outside in 50,000 lux conditions. 50,000 lux conditions means being out in sunlight.

Speaking of the battery, there will also be a Power Manager. This allows the smartwatch user to review and / or change settings that impact the battery life. As well as this, you can optimise your battery saving mode to last you until the end of a trip so it doesn’t die on you.

What’s Coming with the Fenix 6X series?

Garmin is also introducing QuickFit nylon bands and silicon colour for the Garmin Fenix 6X series. As well as this, there are going to be sapphire editions of the two models of the watches. The sapphire edition will have a scratch-resistant sapphire lens to make the Fenix 6X series more durable.

The Fenix 6X series includes maps for outdoor activities, skiing and golfing. Garmin have said that there are over 2,000 maps for ski resorts and over 41,000 maps for golf courses.

The PacePro Feature

There will also be a PacePro feature. It keeps a runner’s pacing strategy precise with adjusted guidance as the person runs through their course. When the person is running, they will be able to see their target split pace, the actual split pace, distance to the next split, and how much time they are ahead/behind on their target. All from their watch face.

Now, how does the watch know where the person is going to run to? Simple, you can create plans from the watch with Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Sensors and Monitors

All of the watches in the Garmin Fenix 6X series will have a heart-rate monitor so you can track your stress levels throughout the day. There is also an underwater heart-rate monitor. Pulse Ox is another feature used to check the oxygen saturation in the blood. This information can be used to support advanced sleep monitoring and altitude acclimation.

Body Battery

Garmin also has a Body Battery feature. This feature enables users to see their body’s energy levels at any given time. The energy level info can be used to schedule workouts at a time that is optimal for your body. This also applies to sleep and rests.

Now, like many smartwatches, the 6X series displays notifications on their watch face when it’s connected to a smartphone. As well as this, the models also have Garmin Pay so you can pay contactlessly with the smartwatch.

Price

The price of the smartwatch is suggested to start at $599.99. So you can tell that this smartwatch is pretty high end. I, for one, am quite excited for when we can get out hands on the smartwatch after its release.

When will the Garmin Fenix 6X be released? So far, we have no word on that yet as the smartwatch has only recently been released.
