Former Samsung chief Injong Rhee hired by Google to coordinate its internet of things project

Injong Rhee announced on his Linkedin post on Monday that he has been hired by Alphabet Inc’s Google. Rhee, who recently resigned from Samsung in December last year is going to lead Google’s Internet of Things business. The Samsung Electronics chief technology officer said in his post that he will be working under Diane Green, CEO of Google Cloud and board member of Google’s parent company – Alphabet as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR).
Rhee gave us an insight into his duties as he says he will be looking forward to harmonizing Alphabet’s various projects related to the Internet of Things. “One of the first things I would like to do with my Google colleagues is to get these efforts coordinated and aligned toward a concerted IoT story of Google — in the process, create distinct consumer and enterprise product lines,” Rhee wrote.
Rhee will be a welcome addition to Google’s budding effort in cloud computing. Top cloud computing sellers, who sell software, hardware and other services to other businesses to help them analyse data from a network of Internet-connected device include; Amazon.com Inc, Google, Microsoft Corp and IBM Corp.
Rhee had spent 6 years with Samsung before resigning in December had gathered enough experience working with Samsung’s Bixby, Knox security system and Samsung Pay wallet. He had recently served as the company’s chief technology officer and head of software and services’ research and development. Injoo Rhee is hoping to grow Google’s IoT into a sustainable and profitable business line. Jane Hynes, Google’s spokeswoman also confirmed Rhee’s hiring by Google’s cloud computing unit, but no additional information was given.
