FCC leak shows that Samsung has a Windows Mixed Reality headset

Yesterday, we reported that Samsung could be working on its Windows Mixed Reality headset and now, it appears that the source of the leak is authentic. Today, the Samsung Windows Mixed Reality headset controllers have been spotted in a partially redacted FCC filing. In the filing, the device is labeled “Samsung HMD Odyssey Controller Left.”. Recall that sometime last year, it was reported that Samsung VR device is codenamed “Odyssey”
As of now information on the specs of this device is not available, however, the renders suggest that it will sport two cameras for inside-out tracking and a six-degree-of-freedom tracking which is usually associated with Microsoft’s headsets. This product is definitely a high-end headset.

The leaked renders also reveal the controllers for this headset which will support built-in headphones produced by AKG. This is not really a surprise considering the fact that the parent company of AKG, Harman International, was recently acquired by Samsung.

The release date for this headset is not known for now but due to the fact that a special Mixed Reality event will be hosted by Microsoft on October 3 in San Francisco, it is possible we might hear about this headset in the event.  From October 17, Microsoft will launch its Mixed Reality headsets and the first set of devices will be from Acer, HP, and Dell which would be priced at $299, $450 (with motion controllers) and $349 respectively. Lenovo is also due to launch a Mixed Reality headset but we won’t be seeing any Mixed Reality headset from Asus till next year even though its polygon design is already public.
