Diablo IV’s next expansion pushed to 2026

Blizzard has revealed new expansion for Diablo 4 won’t arrive until 2026, following the recent release of Vessel of Hatred.

At this year’s DICE Summit, Diablo’s General Manager, Rod Fergusson, announced that the MMORPG’s annual expansion plan is complete. As a result, there are no planned expansions for 2025.

The second expansion following 2024’s Vessel of Hatred is instead scheduled to launch sometime in 2026. A specific release date has yet to be confirmed.

In an interview with Polygon, a spokesperson from Blizzard said: “In his DICE Summit presentation today on building a resilient live service, Diablo GM Rod Fergusson emphasized serving the game over the plan.

“To that, we are excited to share that we are in development on our second expansion for Diablo IV, which will debut in 2026.”

While the distant release date may disappoint fans, in reality, this is very exciting news. It’s the first time in the series that a single title has launched multiple expansions, like Diablo 3’s Reaper of Souls.

In the meantime, 2025 will still be filled with seasonal content for Diablo 4. Just like last year’s season 4 and season 5.

What to expect from the new Diablo IV expansion

Blizzard has yet to disclose details about the upcoming expansion, aside from the fact that it’s in active development and expected in 2026.

Following the popularity of the new Spirit-born class that came with Vessel of Hatred, leaks have surfaced online speculating that a holy-themed class will join the roster.

This theory has sparked from key artworks shared by Blizzard, illustrating a holy knight with a spear and shield alongside other in-game classes.

Many hope that the Paladin, a popular class from previous titles, will make a return. Although Blizzard has yet to confirm this, so take that with a healthy dose of skepticism.

In other news, plans are in place to improve Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 season launches.
