Civilization VII lays out its roadmap of paid and free updates

Civilization VII is just around the corner, and as with any modern video game release, there’s a roadmap to go along with it. In a recent video, Firaxis revealed everything up until September, with a slightly more in-depth look for March.

First up in March will be the first part of the first piece of paid downloadable content for the game. Crossroads of the World “Release 1” will bring Ada Lovelace as a playable leader, as well as Carthage and Great Britain as Civilizations you can choose or do battle against. No date is attached other than “Early March”.

Firaxis also plans to launch four new “Natural Wonders” into the game. No names were announced, but this feature involves discovering naturally occurring places like the Grand Canyon or Great Barrier Reef for additional in-game benefits.

The second half of the release, again with no date other than “Late March” will bring Simon Bolivar, as well as Bulgaria and Nepal as Civilizations.

Free updates coming to Civilization VII

Civ 7 roadmap

While this is for a paid expansion – included with the Deluxe and Founders editions – there is free content coming for all players. Split into two updates, again, “Early March” and “Late March” being the only timeline given, will introduce new events and natural wonders to the game.

The Early March update (1.1.0) will bring the limited-time event, “Natural Wonder Battle”, which Firaxis didn’t elaborate on just yet. Civilization VII will also get the Bermuda Triangle as a natural wonder. Later in March, update 1.1.1 will bring the “Marvelous Mountains” event and Mount Everest.

Civ 7’s April to September updates yet to be fully detailed

April to September wasn’t as detailed, but the team did announce that its Right To Rule update will include two new leaders, four new civilizations, and four new world wonders. During the stream, Firaxis said that future updates could be split up into three or four different releases.

The strategy game releases on February 11, with early access beginning on February 6 if you pony up the cash for the Deluxe or Founders edition. Civilization VII will be available on pretty much everything, including PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
