British bookmaker William Hill has become the first UK platform to offer bets on President Trump upending the US Constitution to serve a third term in office.
The bookmaker is running a market on the outright winner of the 2028 presidential election race, with the incumbent leader priced at 5/1 (6.00) at the time of writing.
Current vice president JD Vance is listed as the favorite at 5/2 (3.50), with Donald Trump Jr. given odds of 9/1 (10.00). His sister, Ivanka Trump, is further behind at 12/1 (13.00), while Democrat prospects Josh Shapiro and Gavin Newsom are listed at 9/1 (10.00) and 10/1 (11.00), respectively.
For Donald Trump Snr. to be in the reckoning, it would require a monumental shift in the American political system as we know it.
Under the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution, presidents are restricted to no more than two, four-year terms.
However, that hasn’t stopped Trump from suggesting he could find a way to run for a third time. In his typical outspoken manner, he playfully told supporters last November:
“I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say ‘He’s so good, we have to figure it out’.”
Not only is convention and the system stacked against the current President, but time is seemingly not on his side, either. The current President would be 82 years of age by the time the next White House contest arrives.
Polymarket traders not optimistic on Trump third term
William Hill is the first British bookmaker to offer the market, which is also on offer from Irish betting platform, BoyleSports.
The latter, which also operates in the UK, is giving odds of 33/1 (34.00) for Elon Musk to be Trump’s successor in 2028.
A BoyleSports spokesperson said, “We’re erring on the side of caution with our price,” while William Hill declined to respond when asked by a British newspaper.
Betting on political outcomes has increased in popularity in the United States, thanks to platforms such as the crypto-based prediction site, Polymarket.
It was a popular medium in the presidential contest last year and has prevailed beyond the election race as a growing platform.
Polymarket is also offering terms on the prospects of a third term for President Trump, but the market is currently giving the New York native just a 4% chance of turning the system on its head to stake his claim.
