Apple’s follow-up to its fitness-focused earbuds, the Powerbeats Pro, could be inbound sooner than expected. Announced in September 2024, the Powerbeats Pro 2 is “due imminently”, according to Apple insider, Mark Gurman.
Over the weekend, the upcoming earbuds were also spotted on a database Apple had registered them to, tipping people off to its upcoming launch.
The upcoming earbuds are expected to include heart rate monitoring. It’ll do this through iOS 18’s new functionality to connect to gym equipment. This data will then be displayed in apps that support it.
The Cupertino company has been pushing fitness as part of its service offerings, integrating a fully fledged fitness app – Apple Fitness+. It has also been partnering with other companies like Nike on Apple Watches and released the Apple Watch Ultra aimed at extreme sports fanatics.
Apple and Beats will, of course, be fitting the charging case for this one with USB-C. The European Union has ruled that all hardware manufacturers should start including USB-C on their devices for charging purposes, something Apple prolonged for as long as it could. Even though Apple began pushing USB-C on its customers through its Mac line.
Originally released in 2019, the Powerbeats Pros are now discontinued by Apple in October 2024. They were warmly received in reviews, and sold quite well, holding over 11,000 reviews on Amazon.
Powerbeats Pro 2 is expected to be a sporty version of AirPods Pro 2
The Powerbeats Pro 2 reportedly will be fairly similar to the recently released AirPods Pro 2, as the original Powerbeats Pro was to the AirPods Pro 1. This includes features like Active Noise Cancellation, for blocking out those around you.
Spatial Audio plays into Apple’s push within its music streaming business to provide an ambient and immersive listening experience. It’s also said to support Adaptive Audio, which will alter the volume depending on the outside noise.
According to reports, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will launch in colors like Jet Black, Quick Sand, Electric Orange, and Hyper Purple.
There’s no solid release date as of yet, but some dedicated Apple websites are expecting something to happen over Spring.
