Apple continues its pursuit of AI as it releases iOS 18.2, the next batch of Intelligence features to developers.
On Wednesday (October 23) Apple Developer shared that the “beta versions of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 are now available.”
This comes after the iPhone maker first introduced Apple Intelligence in June, with this being the company’s way of getting on board the AI bullet train. Since then features have been slowly introduced.
Members of the public will next week be able to access iOS 18.1, with Apple Intelligence supporting US English only to begin with.
The second update, which has now entered into beta mode, will offer other English locales including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa.
What will be included in Apple’s iOS 18.2?
The beta version will also include its long-awaited integration of ChatGPT, with this able to be used in Writing Tools and via Siri. Through this, users can ask Siri to carry out an action and it’ll then pass it on to ChatGPT to fulfill the demand.
The iOS 18.2 will bring in Visual Intelligence for the first time too, but this will only be available for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro owners. In this feature, users can access a new viewfinder by holding down the Camera Control on the lock screen. A photo can then be taken to allow the iPhone holder to learn more about what they’re looking at.
The second update builds on what can be seen in iOS 18.1 as this included the initial layout of Apple Intelligence features. In iOS 18.2, generative image generation features will be launched through the upcoming Image Playground.
This tool is Apple’s first image generation app and it can create images based on prompts, like what is already seen with other generation tools. There will be built-in suggestions or an organic description can be inputted, with Apple then suggesting costumes, locations, and items to add to the image.
Image Wand is a feature that complements Image Playground, as this allows people to draw sketches with the Apple Pencil in the Notes app on iPad and an image will then be generated.
Genmoji is another that is limited to iOS 18.2, with this being similar to Image Playground but will instead focus on custom emoji characters. These can be based on family and friends, with the data able to be pulled from the People album in Photos.
