Amazon Prime Video launches AI-generated recaps

TLDR

  • Amazon Prime Video now offers AI-generated X-Ray Recaps to help viewers remember key scenes.
  • The spoiler-free tool provides personalized summaries supported by Amazon Bedrock’s AI tech.
  • Currently in beta for Fire TV in the U.S., it will expand to more devices by year-end.

Amazon Prime Video has launched a new AI-generated recap tool to provide concise reminders of what you are watching, whether the current episode or a previous series.

The company made the announcement on Monday, with X-Ray Recaps to be supported by Amazon Bedrock, the AWS service for building AI applications.

The feature will be “spoiler-free” with summaries recalling the show’s key themes, plot twists, and cliffhangers, “personalized down to the exact minute of where you are watching.”

It should prove to be a useful addition to the Amazon Prime Video platform, which confirmed last month it would support more ads from 2025, given the different ways the tool can be utilized. Older shows, especially those with a lot of developing storylines aren’t always easy to remember. Even with brand-new episodes, sometimes you have to take a call or grab a drink.

Now you have an instant option to see a recap of what you have missed, or forgotten.

This was relayed by Adam Gray, VP of Product at Prime Video.

He said, “Prime Video product and technology teams work relentlessly behind the scenes to enhance customers’ viewing experience, and with the creation of X-Ray Recaps, we’re directly addressing a common problem customers face when streaming content: forgetting where they left off.

Now available to customers in the United States

Amazon’s new recaps are available now on beta to customers in the United States using Fire TV, in an extension of Prime Video’s existing X-Ray feature which provides key synopsis info such as cast details, production, and statistics (if you’re watching sports).

Further support for additional devices is expected by the end of the year.

Recaps can be found within the X-Ray menu or by selecting ‘Details’ on a Prime Video program title.
