All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is going up against three WWE shows this weekend, as its All In Texas is set for July 12. If you’re unfamiliar with AEW, it’s the alternative wrestling brand that has set itself apart from WWE by leaning more into fan service and ditching the pristine quality that the now TKO-owned company does.
Originally conceived as a massive independent show before AEW’s creation, it is now one of AEW’s “Big Five” shows, similar to WWE’s “Big Four”. The last two were held in the UK, selling out the Wembley stadium, and now it’s back, but hitting Texas instead.
AEW All In Texas has some high stakes
It’s a pivotal show in some respects, as one of the main matches promoted will be Kazuchika Okada vs Kenny Omega, both of whom had a legendary feud in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Their match is set to unify two belts, the Continental and Intercontinental, into the aptly named AEW Unified Championship.
On top of this, there are two “Casino Gauntlet” matches, which are battle royals, both of which are for the Men’s and Women’s World Championships. As with any gambling-themed event, the stakes are high all over the place.
Adam Cole and Kyle Fletcher duke it out for the AEW TNT Championship, while Toni Storm and Mercedes Moné (formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE) are set to fight for the Women’s World Championship.
Tag team turmoil
The two tag team matches also come with their own stakes. Outside of the tag team championship bout, which will see The Hurt Syndicate, JetSpeed, and The Patriarchy (riddled with ex-WWE favorites like Bobby Lashley and Christian Cage), there’s the other match that will have massive implications for the storylines going forward.
Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay have been in the title scene for the AEW World Championship since they landed at AEW. The pair will be forced not to challenge for it for a year if they lose to the Young Bucks, who helped create AEW through that initial All In event. However, the Young Bucks will lose their “Executive Vice President” roles if they fail to win themselves, relegating them back to being normal wrestlers on the roster.
Texas deathmatch will bring Moxley’s patented violence
Speaking of the AEW World Championship, Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose in WWE) will be continuing his hardcore matches in a Texas Death match against “Hangman” Adam Page. Expect violence, expect ridiculous spots, and if anything happens to go viral like the 2023 bamboo sticks in the head, expect to see it replicated ad nauseam everywhere else forever.
