The Witcher 3, it is probably fair to say, goes down as one of the best games of all time so far but, even though it shouldn’t really matter, its overall look is getting a little long in the tooth. Time moves on, graphics get better and the kids, well the kids want shiny things.
CD Projekt Red understands the dilemma and so brought us, coming up on two years ago now, the Next Gen edition of The Witcher 3 which spruced up the look and feel of the original no end.
However, modder Halk Hogan says ‘Hold my beer”, the guy responsible for the original game’s HD texture pack that was downloaded nigh on six million times is back with a sequel mod for the Next Gen edition that obviously starts from an even higher position and, well, just makes the game 4K stunning.
Halk says on the Nexus Mods page, “The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition is a project created from the heart that improves and reworks a huge amount of game assets (textures, models, materials, and more), and the number of these changes can be counted in thousands. Everything is carefully made with attention to every detail.
All this is aimed at making the game more detailed, realistic, consistent, and as faithful as possible reflecting the atmosphere of the dirty world of The Witcher. Now you can experience the most beautiful adventure yet with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!”
The catchily titled ‘The Witcher 4 HD Reworked Project Nextgen Edition’ is already racking up the downloads after being released at the weekend and the page showcases nearly 150 images of the changes made. If you were ever unhappy with the way the moss growing on the roofing slates looked, Halk has you covered, but it is things like increased draw distances and improved shaders that will make you stop and actually think that this game cannot be nearly 10 years old.
If it’s been a while since you played, or heaven forbid you never have experienced Wild Hunt, getting it installed with this mod and settling in on these cold winter nights is something you should definitely be doing.
