Spoon, a developer of app virtualization and streaming technology, announced last week the launch of Spoon Server. The Spoon Server allows allows the delivery of desktop apps via the Web without downloads or installations.
Spoon Server simplifies app deployment. Businesses can utilize the Spoon Server to make desktop apps available to users via the Web, Microsoft SharePoint, or directly from the Start menu. As apps are streamed over the Web or via portals, it eliminates the need for runtime dependencies and also enables legacy apps to run unmodified on Microsoft Windows 7.
Additionally, with Spoon Studio, existing desktop apps can be converted into software-as-a-service offerings.
Spoon Server provides an app portal, as well as web-based administration and analytics on app usager. Spoon Server’s licensing model consists of a server license and an incremental Named End User license. There are no restrictions on the number of apps that can be used with the standard edition.
“Enterprises and application developers no longer have to choose between the rich experience of desktop apps and the ease of deployment and maintenance of web apps,” said Kenji Obata, founder and CEO of Spoon. The Seattle-based company was formerly known as Xenocode.
