Commercial and tribal internet gaming operators in Michigan reported a massive $301.43 million in gross receipts from internet gaming and internet sports betting in May 2025.
The latest report is in, with the gross receipts from iGaming totaling $251.47 million, which is an increase from the $248.1 million that was reported in April. The gross sports betting receipts were $49.96 million, up from $42.6 million, which was recorded in the previous month.
“Combined adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for iGaming and internet sports betting reached $271.8 million in May,” the press release states.
The state has seen a substantial boom in this sector, with it legalizing sports betting in 2019. It was just before the COVID-19 pandemic, in March 2020, when retail locations were officially launched.
A huge majority ($236.2 million) came from iGaming, and then $35.6 million was from internet sports betting.
“This marks a 1.3% increase in iGaming AGR and a 32.9% increase in sports betting AGR compared to April. Year-over-year, iGaming AGR rose 32.2%, while sports betting AGR increased 26.6% compared to May 2024.”
As for the monthly handle, “the total internet sports betting handle was $386.1 million in May, a 7.6% decrease from the $417.6 million recorded in April.”
Michigan casinos report large revenues for May too
It wasn’t just the internet gaming and sports betting that have seen success in the state, as three casinos in Detroit collectively reported $114.0 million in revenue for May 2025.
Of this total, table games and slot machines generated $112.7 million, while retail sports betting contributed $1.3 million. The revenue from table games and slots across the three casinos represented a 1.2% increase compared to April.
When looking into the specifics, MGM Grand Detroit came up trumps as it secured $53.1 million in revenue, which is up 2.4%. Next up is MotorCity Casino, which saw $33.9 million and an increase of 0.6%, followed by Hollywood Casino at Greektown. While the last one totaled $25.7 million, it was down by 0.2% in May.
