Samsung and Google Reach Cross Licensing Deal For their Current and Future 10 year Patents

Samsung has announced a new Patent Licensing deal with Google, where both companies will have access to, not only each others existing Patents, but also any Patents that either of them will file over the next ten years that cover “a broad range of technologies and business areas.”
Google’s Deputy General Counsel for Patents, Allen Lo, describes the cross-licensing agreement as one that will help the two giants “reduce the potential for litigation, and focus instead on innovation.” Recently we have seen Samsung and Apple duelling in the courts.
Many believe this will give Tizen the freedom to evolve as a new OS that will not be under attack from birth, but it is hard to see why Google would allow Samsung a helping hand with a new OS. A new OS that could have lofty ideas of challenging the “OS Master”.
We will have to see how this one unfolds ….
