2019 LG TVs will soon get Alexa, Airplay 2 and Apple HomeKit support

After adding Google Assistant on its 2018 TVs, LG is now introducing Amazon Alexa to its 2019 TVs with ThinQ AI. Starting this month, LG’s 2019 lineup of Smart TVs featuring ThinQ AI, including UHD TVs, NanoCell TVs and OLED TVs, will get support for Alexa voice assistant. The support will be rolled out through an update for the Alexa app. A total of 14 countries will be getting the update. Countries in North America will begin receiving the update this month, followed by Europe and Asia in the coming weeks.

AirPlay 2 support coming soon

LG has announced that it will soon begin rolling out Alexa support for its compatible 2019 TVs. With the new addition, owners of LG TVs will be able to interact with Alexa, ask questions, control compatible smart devices, access over 90,000 Skills and more, without needing a separate device. And with Alexa Routines, users will be able to automate various actions with a single command. For instance, users can set Alexa to read-out weather forecast, traffic information, and more by saying “Alexa, start my morning”.

Alexa support on LG TV

Alexa support will initially be available in Austria, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. LG is yet to announce if it plans to roll out the support in any other regions or not.

LG also promises a better voice recognition on its TVs, thanks to a more advanced ThinQ AI voice recognition technology. In addition, a new update later in the year will also bring Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support. LG 2019 OLED TVs and select NanoCell TVs will get the support. AirPlay 2 will enable users to play media contents from Apple devices like the iPhone on their LG TV. Apple HomeKit, meanwhile, will let customers to control their LG TVs through Siri or the Home app.
