Xiaomi has joined the line of major tech companies who are interested in AI speakers. The Chinese smartphone maker introduces their home speaker, the Xiaomi Yeelight Voice Assistant. This gadget is powered by Amazon’s Alexa.
The Yeelight speaker has a design similar to the Echo Dot with a blue LED ring and volume control buttons on the top. The Chinese market version will be powered by Xiaomi’s own AI technology while the Yeelight speaker for the Global market is powered by Amazon’s Alexa.
The Yeelight speaker is equipped with Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Beamforming technology. This is because of the speaker uses six microphones to make it easier for it to pick up the user’s voice and a single 2-watt loudspeaker. Therefore, the Acoustic Echo cancellation aids in reducing the echo. The speaker can be activated from a distance of about 5 meters.
The Yeelight speaker has a Dual AI system with the ability to control other Xiaomi smart home product. The speaker has quad-core Cortex- A53 CPU which runs at 1.2GHz, 256 MB RAM and 256 MB internal memory. The smart speaker offers connectivity of 4 GHz/5 GHz dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, but can also be paired via Bluetooth.
Official launch date is scheduled for the 31st of January 2018 and shipping is expected to begin in China at this date also. The Xiaomi Yeelight Voice Assistant is priced at CNY199 (about Rs. 1,950, €25 or $30) and can be purchased at the Xiaomi online store. Although, information on the products international availability and pricing is not yet available.
