At the Tizen Conference 2013 in San Francisco, Intel had their Tizen Powered i7 Ivy Bridge UltraBook on display. The actual release date of the UltraBook is unknown at the moment but what we do have is a video that shows the look and feel of the OS as well as giving us insight into the architecture that is being used.
The OS is based on gnome 3 and this code that will be the basis of Tizen 3.0. The homescreen is actually called a Tizen Shell which is an extension of the gnome shell which is part of the gnome 3 stack. All the code will be released on Tizen.org at some point this year and images will be available that will target ivy bridge processers as well as some older models. For much older hardware we will have to look at the Tizen community and to be honest we should aim at getting Tizen running on even the oldest hardware.
Tizen apps were already installed that would use the tizen HTML5 runtime. The Network manager is Conman and with Audio handled by Pulse Audio and also the BlueZ stack. Widgets can be installed on the homescreen which are gnome 3 extensions mostly written in JavaScript using the gnome 3 extension API opposed to the Tizen Web API.
The Tizen Eclipse IDE was installed as well as other development tools and applications including Libre Office. Developers are soon going to be in a position to be able to develop Tizen Applications using the Tizen OS itself opposed to Windows / Mac / Ubuntu. Applications and Games ran very well and to be honest I was surprised to see have well they were running
Task switching is accomplished via simple alt+tab. Online accounts can be added to the system centrally (Thank god) and we can add Google, Jabber, IRC, OwnCloud, Facebook, Twitter, Voip / SIP and others. Steam Client from Valve software was installed with several games at hand demonstrated that the OS was working very well with the GPU.
