Switch 2: Nintendo says the images and videos are not the droids you are looking for, and brands leaked CES footage as “not official”

So the Nintendo Switch 2 stole the show at CES 2025, which is unusual of course as it wasn’t actually present. You could argue that the Switch 2 was there in spirit however as CES became the show where everybody was waving around dummy units, Images, and peripherals for the as yet unannounced console.

This is not how Nintendo would have seen CES 2025 going. A company that likes to meticulously plan its every move and never deviate from that plan, suddenly faced with swathes of press coverage it had no control over.

It started with Genki and the “dummy” Switch 2 unit it was showing to everybody who would look. Genki went from overnight being a company you had probably never heard of unless you are addicted to gaming peripherals, to one of the most searched on the internet.

Now whether that will be worth the inevitable awkward emails and calls they received from Nintendo afterward, only time will tell.

Nintendo, acting with all the dexterity and speed of turn as a World War 2 battleship has now, finally, made comment and that comment is, pretty much “no comment.”

Speaking in an article in the Senkei Shimbun newspaper today, Nintendo commented simply with “The images and videos are not official”, which, well, we knew already. It doesn’t even go as far as saying it is fake

Nintendo then, it seems, will not have its plans for actually announcing the new hardware affected by everybody else talking about it, leaving a slightly bizarre vacuum of leaks and misinformation to fill the void.

Nintendo of course was not at CES 20253 and is plowing on regardless for the big day when Switch 2 gets unveiled, whenever that may be.

Until then, the wait goes on.
