I like Roman history and am partial to the odd Gladiator movie as well. I’m fortunate to live in a city that once, way back in AD 79 had a Roman presence and traces of old forts and granaries still exist. Of course, nowadays its surrounded by cultural heavyweights such as Starbucks and a nearby Peaky Blinders-themed cocktail bar, but if you close your eyes you can still hear the stomp of boots. It’s cool.
So couple the fact I am a huge Civ fan with the new news that the just released Yield! Fall of Rome is inspired by Civilization along with the cute 4x strategy phenom that is Battle for Polytopia, I am in.
For starters check out the video below – this has to be the first game featuring cute Romans (and not in a ‘Well hello Centurion’ type way), You can instantly see the Civ-fluence but Billionworlds and Daedalic Entertainment’s take on the fall of the Roman Empire is designed to be fast-faced and dynamic, reducing micromanagement to a minimum. I also really like the tilt-shift aesthetic of the graphics.
Here you will lead legendary tribes such as the Britons, Huns, and Franks against the all-mighty Romans, and dive straight into the heart of the action as you shape the destiny of the ancient world. Easy.
One of the features that makes Yield! Even more interesting is that is it actually being pitched as designed for Steam Deck so you can get your strategy fix on the go.
Yield! Fall of Rome is available now on Steam and currently part of the Daedalic sale so you can pick it up for around $20.
