Samsung had disclosed plans to set up an Internet-of-Things (IoT) Academy at the Moscow University of Technology which would kick off in September. Ahead of the start of the academic programme, the tech giant recently organised a summer educational program on Internet-of-Things. Participants at the conference were made up of representatives from the leading universities, specifically, 15 students who passed the competitive selection and 8 teachers drawn from the Moscow Technological University (MIREA) and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).
The program was held from July 10 to July 14 at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). During the duration of the program, participants received theoretical knowledge in the field of Internet of Things (IoT), as well as practical experience in making IoT prototypes.

The summer programme also saw the students embarking on a team competition on the final day. Using the knowledge acquired, the students made group presentations of their proposed devices, including a description of the technical implementation. One of the teams offered IoT device for tracking cargo integrity during delivery and that idea won the first price. Also, other award-winning ideas include the one for forest fire alarm and security systems for industrial climbers.
Samsung provided learning materials developed by the Samsung Research Centre and also a set of equipment for IoT laboratory as well as kits such as Unwired device’s IoT gadget, Samsung’s Artik 10, wireless protocol device and other. Samsung hopes to expand the competition in the coming years until it becomes a national competition drawing participants from different schools across Russia.
